Snow was falling when they found her floating downriver. She was naked, still chained, her beauty forever frozen in a block of ice. Jason Briscoe, the man convicted of the crime, claims it wasn't murder. Just rough sex gone too far. Prison psychologist Holly Alexander agrees and approves Briscoe's parole. But is she correct?
The story begins with the discovery of a woman frozen completely in a river. Her head is shaved, she is naked and strapped into a leather harness, and a tattoo of a blue starling in a web on her shoulder. The suspected killer, Jason Briscoe, is sentenced on murder. Five years later, Holly Alexander, is a therapist at the local prison for sex offenders. Her late father was a District Attorney and she learns that he would sentence people for child molesting that were innocent. So, she is working on a program to over come these tendancies. She is asked to review Jason Briscoe's file. He is up for early release. As Holly interviews Jason, she gets the feeling that he is one of the innocent ones. With the evidence presented and Jason's interviews, she thinks that the dead girl was into bondage and the suffocation sex and that it got out of hand accidentally. So, she recommends Jason for early release. As soon as that is done, previous victims come to her with more evidence that was stricken from the trial. Jason has done this before with other women. Now in a panic, Holly is trying to do everything possible to get him back in jail. But it is too late. Jason's attorney fought for a new trial and a new DA, that didn't know much on the case, dismissed it due to evidence. Holly knows Jason is going after new victims, but no one will help her except sheriff Shepard. But he can only help as much as getting Holly in contact with a rape prevention group. This saves Jason first target, Laura, who looks exactly like the first girl Jason killed. But that backfires. Jason decides to go after Holly and targets her through her sister Beth. This is one great book. You think that Holly is going to get Jason stopped and he turns it around. There was great action, mystery, and thrilling ending. Read this book, it is well worth it. You will not be disappointed.
