Book Overview

Meet Karl Welzein, aka Captain Karl, aka @DadBoner on Twitterthe Midwest's most beautiful loser Karl Welzein is really lookin'forward to the weekend, you guys. His job is a drag and his wife kicked him out, but that's okay. She wears granny panties and is constantly dropping wads of cash at Target, and his son cries all the time. Now his "temporary" roommate, Dave, ate all the Totino's pizza rolls. Again. Karl Welzein is sick of this. So sick of this. Power Moves chronicles the hilarious decline of Karl Welzein on his journey from life as a Dockers-and-golfshirt-wearing dad to a ponytailed party maniac who spits out his life philosophies like a modern-day Charles Bukowski (if he preferred to get drunk at Applebee's). A middle-aged Michigan native, Karl may be overweight, prone to questionable fashion and culinary choices, oblivious to his drinking problem, a poor excuse for an employee, obsessed with the restroom, and a terrible husband, father, and friend . . . but in his heart he means well. He's just like a lot of ushe loves the USA, Guy Fieri, bold flavors, Bob Seger, and thinking he looks jacked in a tight tee and Maui Jim sunglasses. Karl is an everyman and like no other man on the planet all at once. Inspired by the Twitter feed @DadBoner, Karl finally tells his full story. He shares his wisdom on fitness (1. Look at a pic of Stone Cold Steve Austin. 2. Do 'shups 'til you look like Stone Cold. 3. Cut off your sleeves), diet (Eat only the filling of the Taco Bell Beefy Melts for maximum flavor and low-carb health), fashion (Wearin'boots with jean shorts says "I like to keep cool, but I'm ready if the action gets hot"), work life (If you don't have a job that makes you want to kill yourself, you don't deserve to drink until you want to die), and the bliss of the perfect weekend (beers, brats, and babes'chest beefers). But above all, this is a story about Americathe real red, white, and blue America of today. Welcome to Karl's world. Reading this book is the ultimate Power Move.

This is AWESOME

This is a compilation of photographs - some are quirky and even funny, some are downright chilling, and some are nightmare fuel. Either way very interesting for anybody interested in true crime and who has a strong stomach.

fantastic true crime/history book!

lots of cases im familiar with accompanied by photos ive never seen before, mixed in with some crimes ive never even heard of. descriptions are brisk, though satisfying and the photos really make it; over 400 pages of history (political, historical, true crime) up until 2001

Good to pick up and put down

This book features dozens of short blubs concerning criminal events. It's on beautiful glossy paper, and the photos are clear and attractive. I got a used copy and the condition was great...it is obviously a quality book and has held up well. Each short "story" is paired with a photo or two. Although short, they are enough to interest the reader and give sufficient information to research later. My only problem (not problem?) with it is it turns out to be British, so it features some British crimes which are probably less familiar to Americans like myself. It is not, however, all British by any means! And I found it interesting to read some cases I had never heard of. Most of the cases are familiar to Americans, like lynchings, John W. Gacy, the assasination of Lincoln, etc.

A Photographic Record of Criminals of the Last 100 Years

This is not the sort of book that I would normally purchase for myself. In fact it was a present and initially one that I was not sure I was grateful for. When people know that you are an avid reader they tend to think that you will read absolutely anything and everything. Having got that off my chest I have to admit that I became totally fascinated by this book. It is full of photographs of criminals and murders and includes a short synopsis of the crimes each of them had committed. Abraham Lincoln's killer, Jack the Ripper, The Clanton Gang, right through to Slobodan Milosevic trial, they are all here. The book is not sensationalised in any way, it is just a record of the facts and to see photographs of the actual people involved makes it all the more poignant. I will freely admit that it is probably not a book for everybody, but for those with an inquisitive mind and a passion for the truth rather than the myth, this book is a must.
