Because the Investigations math series is based on rigorous research into how children learn best and how their thinking develops, it provides the the best environment for ALL children to develop their understandings with the teacher as coach. This approach is difficult for teachers who are underconfident in their own mathematical thinking abilities, so this book is very helpful in providing them with the support they need to develop their own math thinking along with their students. It is also useful for parents who were taught math in the traditional way algorithmic way that has left them without the confidence to think mathematically on their own. If parents and teachers would like to produce students (even K, 1 and 2 students) who are able to investigate and think and problem solve mathematically rather than be mathematically timid and underconfident they should be willing to embrace the Investigations approach.
