Attorney Lily Martin thought the distance between Los Angeles and small town Louisiana would help put her dark past to rest... but Lily couldn't be more wrong. One phone call is all it takes to bring... This description may be from another edition of this product.
When her close personal friend, Father Michel Dugas, is killed, Lily Martin returns home to Louisiana after years away. While there she's forced to face her past in the form of Gitan Boudreaux, her former lover and the man sent to prison for killing her father. After Gitan went to prison Lily married and divorced Hugh Lothair, the man who is now Sheriff. Lily has never really fallen out of love with Gitan, or he with her, and now that they are together again those feelings are coming alive. Only they must still deal with finding out who killed Father Dugas. Add to that, Gitan is still determined to protect Lily from the secrets of what really happened the night her father died. Faced with both of these obstacles, and an ex-husband who is not quite ready to let go, can Gitan and Lily finally have a chance at happiness? In At The Kill was a romantic suspense that was heavier on the suspense than I normally care for. That being said, I still enjoyed it and found the suspense aspect to extremely well written. Gitan and Lily's romance, while secondary to the suspense storyline, is still emotional and left me wanting more. All in all, In At The Kill is a romantic suspense that will be a welcome addition to any reader's to-be-read list. Melissa Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

This book was very hard to put down! Lilly Martin is an Attorney in LA who is having career problems and personal problems trying to forget her past in a small Louisian town when she gets a call that her close friend, Father Michael has been murdered. She goes back to the town she is trying to leave behind and a tragic past and abusive childhood. Her ex-husband is the sherriff of this town and investigating the murder. Lilly has moved past their marriage, but Hugh still considers her his wife. Hugh never liked Father Michael so Lilly stays to make sure his murder is caught. To complicate matters, Lilly's first love, Gitan, is recently released from prison for killing Lilly's father. Lilly, Hugh,Gitan, & Michael were all close friends growing up, and grew apart after Lilly's father's death. The plot moves fast and is a great read, but I never really understood why Lilly had married Hugh or when their relationship started. I had figured out the who early on, but still was surprised by some of the twist. I loved Lilly & Gitan, and their relationship was intense and sweet, but I never got an explanation on why Lilly walked away from him to begin with. I am looking forward to the next book by SK McClafferty.
