Something on the order of 64,000 heads of households appear in this "Index", 3,000 more than in the index to the 1800 census for North Carolina. This work is set forth in the following manner: first the family name of the head of household is given, followed by his Christian name, then his county of residence, and finally the page number of the census schedule. (Researchers should note that the 1810 census schedules for Craven, Greene, New Hanover, and Wake counties are missing.)
