This work examines technological and research advances in information system development. It provides extensive coverage of methodologies, techniques and tools, but treats each one discretely. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I'd put this on the "must-read" list for I.T. project managers and business analysts who want to expand their perspective beyond personal experience. Avison and Fitzgerald's book gives you historic and industry-wide views of methodologies. You'll find it amply illustrated and easy to read.
Excellent reference manual

A comprehensive reference of methodologies, techniques and tools used for information systems development. The book is ideal for business analysts, system developers and business strategists. The descriptions of these methodologies, techniques and tools are clear, brief and complete. Clarity makes it easy to review and compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of each approach to information system development. A framework is also provided for the comparison of different methodologies. The layout makes it easy for a reader to go straight to a specific methodology. However due to its nature the content is som ewhat dated and does not include newer developments e.g. Unified Modelling Language and a new update is urgently needed.
A comprehensive framework

Avison and Fitzgerald produced a thoroughly researched comparison on commonly used software development methodologies. Not only do the authors highlight the methodological mess that bothers researchers and practitioners alike, they also provide a comprehensive evaluation framework for those who are still wondering what methodology to use. This book certainly helps the reader to bring some order into the chaos.
