En 1900, el gobierno argentino autoriz una expedici n para explorar los r os Re ihu y Futauleuf en la Patagonia. Los dos ge logos alemanes Paul Kr ger y Paul Stange fueron los encargados de realizar esta misi n, cuyo objetivo era recabar informaci n sobre la geolog a, la fauna, la flora y las posibilidades de explotaci n econ mica de la regi n. Este informe preliminar, que se public en 1901, constituye uno de los primeros trabajos cient ficos sobre la Patagonia y una fuente hist rica invaluable para entender el proceso de colonizaci n y explotaci n de esta zona.
