Insight Guides have a special place in the travel world's historiography

With a trip or two to Spain under my belt, I wanted to find more information about the places I had been and the culture I was exposed to. I purchased a variety of travel guides - each having something that the others did not. For Insight Guides, it truly provided insight about the Spanish culture(s) - for anyone who has been there knows, there is not *one* Spanish culture... there are many depending on the area you visit. I loved the short chapters on topics such as the Awakening from Franco's regime and a brief coverage of Flamenco. The version I bought was older, but that was no matter. The material was interesting and the color pictures of the peninsula were heart stopping - reading the Insight Guide made me want to visit España again soon!

Like all the Insight guides, this is a great guidebook. I love Insight Guides because they offer background on the people and history, the cultures and customs, and lots of wonderful photographs. The sections on specific hotels and restaurants are minimal, which is fine with me because that info is always out of date by the time a guide hits the shelves anyway!
