Reviewer: Susan Abbott from London This is not just the best book I have ever seen on Psychiatry but the ONLY book I have ever found that introduces Psychiatry to the general public. Starting off with a really interesting background to Psychiatry, it soon gets into the nitty gritty of what actually happens when a person visits a Psychiatrist - cleverly showing the situation from both the patient's and the Psychiatrist's points of view by using cartoon characters (an impressive feature of the whole book). The main part of the book is a very useful summary of the (eight) different categories of mental disorders. The last section of the book is an enlightening critique of Psychiatry with fascinating (and somewhat worrying) predictions about the future.I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mental disorders and their treatments. It is extremely well written and illustrated throughout, making it accessible to a wide range of people - from teenagers to the elderly. In fact, every home should have a copy!
