This book is mandatory reading for ages 13 and up in the Black community. Ms. Wallace puts into words what our culture has experienced in thought, action, and deed since our ancestors came over on the slave ships. The language is raw and very explicit, but so is our torrid relationship with ourselves and others outside of our race. I can readily see why she experienced so much backlash from the Black community back in the day...she exposed our 'ills' long before we were ready to deal with them.
