Book Overview

Reports about every aspect of food and the culture it stems from, both practical and anecdotal, and naturally all the most important recipes from Italy's various regions open up a culinary universe that you can capture in your own kitchen. The "land where lemons bloom" was already a fascinating travel destination long before Goethe identified it as such. The grand culture and varied landscapes of Italy have attracted and inspired artists and writers of every epoch. Since the time of classic "educational trips" to the ancient sites of the Apennine Peninsula, ever-increasing numbers of travelers have developed an affinity to this country and the ars vivendi of its inhabitants. Indeed, the simple and yet ingenious Italian cuisine has become the expression of countless visitors' approach toward life. In 496 pages and more than 1,200 color photographs, Culinaria Italy introduces not only kitchen and cellar, but also the land and people who reside between the Alps' peaks and the pointed toe of the Italian "boot". More than 380 time-tested recipes from every region of the country ensure that a feast for the palate can follow the stimulating reading pleasure. AUTHOR: Claudia Piras studied philosophy and literature and works as an editor, author, and translator. Eugenio Medagliani is the proprietor of a firm in Milan that has specialized in sales of utensils for professional kitchens since 1860. For more than 25 years he has published the magazine Il Cuoco, the journal of the organization Federcuochi Italiana. He also works with diverse fine food journals and television programs and is a member of the international jury of the gourmet association Slow Food. Ruprecht Stempell has photographed the stars of the international media world for music and lifestyle magazines. In conjunction with international aid organizations, reports about slums in Ethiopia, street children in Brazil, child labor in Bangladesh, as well as photo documentaries of Nepal and Romania followed. Stempell has also contributed picture material to additional volumes of the Culinaria series. 1400 illustrations This description may be from another edition of this product.

Designed to give you an appreciation of all things relating to the Italian kitchen

As it says in the introduction, "Culinaria Italy" is "where the art of cooking and the art of living meet." This is a fairly comprehensive one volume adventure which explores the culture of the 19 regions of Italy. In the 750 miles from the Alpine mountains to the toe of the boot, the geography and history have shaped the people and the food. Available ingredients and the proximity of central Europe make cuisine in the...

CULINARIA ITALIA is more than a book about food: this magnificently produced volume offers more information about Italy than most books focused on the culinary arts. Put together by the team of editors Claudia Piras and Eugenio Medagliani and photographers Ruprecht Stempell and Guenter Beer, this volume of information is a colorful, intelligent, inspiring, educational and very entertaining book about the glories of Italy...

This is another fantastc book in the Culinaria series. I own their Spain, France, Europe, and of course, Italy volumes. If you know these books, then here is the short review: It's excellent, buy it. For the uninitiated, this is as good as it gets for a full culinary tour of Italy. The pictures are beautiful, the stories interesting and educational, and the recipes are great too. Learn about the variety of Italian foods, the...

Another CULINARIA experience!

I have been a fan of the CULINARIA series of books (European Specialties, Spain, France, The Caribbean, Hungary, Germany, to name a few). CULINARIA's Italy is their newest addition. What set the series apart from the rest of the food market cookbooks (it is almost inaccurate to call them "cookbooks" since the emphasis here is never on the recipes) is not the superb full color photographs of almost clinical detail of the...

5 Star Culinary Tour of Italy

My wife and I love to travel to Italy, and are constantly reading cookbooks and travel literature in search of Italian cuisine. What a joy to read this book! Each chapter describes in precise detail the ingredients and products for a specific region. I have seen this format before, but never with as much useful information. This book not only illustrates the variety of Italian products, but also gives extensive attention...
