Jane Chapman loves working in the kitchen of one of Boston's fanciest hotels. Though most of her friends have married and moved to Montana as mail-order brides, she is in no hurry to marry. She enjoys her busy city life. But when she unexpectedly loses her job and is unable to find a new position, panic begins to set in. Though he's a handsome man, his eyes are as dark as his hair and so cold that she's chilled to her core. Charlie Donovan steps up to help her escape by telling John the white lie that they're already engaged. He then insists that for her safety, they should marry, because he doesn't trust John Angell otherwise.
