One of those rare finds in a used bookstore

One of the best science fiction novels I have ever read. It's one of those books that you hand to a friend and threaten them with bodily harm if they don't read it. Buy it. Read it. And no harm shall befall you.

Terrific!

This out-of-print book is available! Look for it used! It's worth the effort. Alihahd is a rebel captain, a great hero and a tormented man. His battle against the Na'id is a battle against himself. Thank God, there is not a single wizard or dragon in sight! Here is a science fiction novel of intergalactic dominion, betrayal, luck, deceit, disguise, war, and redemption; a well-written book and a pleasure to read.

excellent and under-rated volume.

I agree with most of the above review - this is a very elegant novel - among the better one-volume science fiction books I have come across,l. Subtle characterisations and bold world-building underlaid by some serious and thoughtful philosophical questions. highly recommended if you can find a copy

Lawrence of Arabia meets Star Wars

This book is Rebecca's Meluch's Masterpiece. I have spoken to her and I think it is safe to say that she would agree with me. The book draws from and has similarities to the story of Lawrence of Arabia. The main character even resembles T.E. Lawrence(or Peter O'Toole). Meluch fills all of her books with landscapes, religions, technologies, and communities that rival those in Frank Herbert's Dune. I have read this book more than ten times in my life and will read it several more. All of her other works are worth multiple readings as well, but Jerusalem Fire stands out. If I may tease you with a quote, you must find out who is referred to when the question is asked. "So who do you know who draweth his every breath in pain?" This does not refer to physical pain. Find and read this book whether you are a Sci-Fi fan or not. You will not regret it.
