Jesus Speaks to Women

At first site, I almost mistook this book, with its attractive mauve color scheme and place mark-ribbon, for what may be called a `light weight' and 'light on Scripture' devotional. After all it is small enough to fit in a handbag and has large, easy to read print. Don't misunderstand. Those daily devotionals are often very uplifting and encouraging, but I was looking for something more in depth. I found that even with these attractive amenities, "Jesus Speaks to Women" is not your common daily devotional. This is not merely a collection of inspirational stories. "Jesus Speaks to Women" focuses on the words of Jesus Christ. It is a collection of 45 meditations on His true, unchanging, and relevant words. Each meditation consists of four easy to read pages. Each day begins with the main thought - a Bible verse of Jesus' words, followed by the story behind His words. This background paragraph lets you know what was going on at the time and gives a glimpse into the times and customs. The next page offers a personal reflection on the Bible verse, sharing how it might relate to a woman's life today, making it personal. and finishing with a principal to live by. The meditation continues with a collection of six related Bible verses. These help to round out the fullness of the spiritual meaning for it is said that the Bible always interprets itself. Page four finishes up the day's meditation with some thought provoking, related quotations from contemporary spiritual leaders, poets and other well-known individuals. "Jesus Speaks to Women" is perfect for any woman looking for something more than the uplifting stories that many other devotionals contain. It's for the busy woman who may have as little as 15 minutes of precious quiet time each day and wants to make her few minutes of treasured privacy count with uncluttered insight into God's word. These short Bible studies are inspiring and challenging. I found "Jesus Speaks to Women" gave me understanding of the words of Jesus, leaving me with something to meditate on for the entire day.
