Submitted by Robert L. Shepherd for his reading student, Katrina Ellsworth: "This novel is about men and women, good and evil, greed and purity, the poor and the wealthy. The Pearl tells how sudden wealth ruins a happy family's life and turns them into a meek, sad couple. How do the mystery and magic of the pearl touch their lives, and how will they touch yours? Read The Pearl by John Steinbeck to find out. It will enchant your mind as it will your heart. See what happens to Kino and Juana and how they learn that the worth of some things is beyond all price."

The Pearl is an enduring and classic fable, sensitively told. It was almost as good as the Red Pony but better than the Moon is Down
