Top knitwear designer Debbie Bliss presents 25 fabulous new projects for four-to-ten-year-olds, from easy striped legwarmers to a denim sweater and hooded parka.
This book earns points right away by providing patterns for older kids. Why are there so few patterns available for kids who have passed the toddler years? The patterns in this book are typical of Debbie Bliss's style--classic and elegant. Even the most style-conscious kids will like these things, but none of the patterns are fussy or trendy. Several of the patterns are for boys, and, although I don't have any sons, I suspect most boys would like them. Nothing in this book is overly cutesy. Most of the knitting is quite simple, and many are suitable for beginners. Because the patterns are generally simple, however, they are also easy to customize. I made the hooded pullover in some yarn my older daughter and I kool-aid dyed, and I'm currently working on the raglan-sleeved pullover, to which I've added a pirate motif. The book itself is nicely laid out. The instructions are clear, the photos actually give a good picture of the completed projects, and the spiral binding is convenient. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to knit for gradeschoolers.

Beautiful, fashionable knits for children

I love Debbie Bliss! Her pattern instructions are clear, concise and easy to knit even for a beginner. Her yarn is absolutely yummy to knit and delightful to work with. I had already purchased three of her books for babies, which I loved, and I was looking for patterns to knit for my fashionable four year old granddaughter. When I found "Junior Knits" I couldn't wait to cast on. My granddaughter loved the first sweater and now I'm on the third. I expect I will make every sweater in the book. This is definitely a book for every knitting mother and grandmother. Don't be put off by the fact she references her own yarns for the projects. I've used both Debbie Bliss yarns and other yarns. I prefer the Debbie Bliss but if you can't find Debbie's yarn or find them a bit pricey, the yarns' are standard weights and you can easily do substitutions. Just do a little research and make sure you make a swatch. Happy knitting!
Another Debbie Bliss success!

Great book. Love the spiral binding. It makes it so easy to use. The patterns are all very cute and the sizes have a wide range. Can't wait to start making something for my granddaughters! It's a great companion book to the Debbie Bliss books for infants and toddlers.
Great knits for a older kids!

I have found it hard to find simple, stylish patterns for my oldest kid now that she is no longer a toddler, but I found lots of great ideas in Junior Knits. I am a Debbie Bliss fan anyway, and except for the fact that the yarns include cashmere and merino in several projects (like I'm going to make a sweater for a four-year-old that is not machine-washable - ha!), this book leaves nothing to be desired. I especially love the binding - it's spiral bound and lays flat - hurray! Thanks, Debbie!
