'PLEASE, BILL, DON'T SHOOT A shotgun blast changes young Joe Overby's life forever. After his father shoots the county sheriff, three-year-old Joe sets out on an unimaginable series of adventures.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Joe Abb Overby's father was my grandfather. As I grew up all I knew was that my grandfather had left his wife, my Momo, when my daddy was two or three years old and a houseful of kids who grew up without a father. As a result I grew up with little respect for the man. Of course as one grows older and wiser we want to look to find more answers to seemingly simple questions. Reading this book gave me a new respect for my grandfather and I thank, Joe Abb Overby, for that. My mother wrote letters to WJ Overby, Joe's older brother, for years and I only remember meeting each brother one time as a small child. One's choices shape the lives of many people and my grandfather's choice to leave his first family not only caused pain and casulties there, but pain and casulties for his second family. I am thankful that this son fought his way and made a life. I will be buying the book for my two sons so that they will have a better understanding of their great-grandfather. The other reviewer was correct-This book is outstanding!! Carolyn

The story is told in a heart wrenching fashion of a little boy with the worst kind of childhood. Violence and neglect define his world. And as it goes on you see how he not only survived, but found a path toward making an important mark on the world.
