Katy, a young katydid, was hopping around in the house and her Mama said "no hopping in the house" and shooed her out the door to play outside. Of course when you are a big sister and have a little brother named Lou you get stuck with him. He followed her outside to follow her around. "Boing, boing, boing . . . " Oh, no, she accidentally knocked all the pollen off the pink and lavender lilies and a bumblebee got upset with her. Of course Lou shouted out, "Katy did it! Katy did it!". Leave it to a little brother to tattle on her. Next when they were hopping on the tomatoes she "scared all the aphids away" and a big bug got mad at her. Of course Lou ratted on her again. Little brothers can be so much trouble when they tag along. "Boing, boing, boing . . . " She accidentally tangled up a spider's web and he got really mad at her. "Katy did it! Katy did it!" Poor Katy was having a bad day and Lou was no help at all. All of a sudden she heard a cry for help. What was that small voice crying out for? Katy (who never managed to do anything right) was off to see if she could be of any assistance. Children don't always mean to misbehave on purpose and this book can show them that it's OK to make mistakes. Lou, her pesky little brother exhibits the typical pain in the neck behavior of a younger sibling. This was an amusing, fun and heartwarming story all rolled into one. This would be an excellent read aloud and discuss book in a homeschool or classroom setting. If you have a little tattle tale who's always yelling "Katy did it, Katy did it," you might just love this book too!.
Kids love it!

Both of our children love this book. The story is great, the pictures are beautiful, and the message is also very important - use your gifts and abilities to help others. Moreover, it now serves as an excellent resource to help our daughter build her reading skills, since she now enjoys reading it to our younger son. Will continue to look for more of Lorianne's books, they are a house favorite.
A great book for the kids to get involved too!

My daughter loves to "boing" along every page! She has this one memorized and loves to read along. The illustrations are fabulously bright and eye catching. My three month old stares at all the pages while flapping his arms up and down. It was also great when we saw the real katydid at the museum and my daughter remembered her book. She now puts the two together and talks bout each of them.
Fun to read. Cute and clever.

My kids (2yrs & 4yrs) love when I read this book to them. The illustrations are so unique and interesting to look at. They like to follow the lines of Katy's 'boings' throughout the story and can completely relate to the trouble Katy gets into when she just wants to play (and how her sibling is always trying to tag along!) Fun to read, a VERY cute and clever story.
