This is a story set in London & New York in the 70's & 80's art world. It's more stereotypical than realistic, so one would hope the story would make up for the setting. What the reader is given is a glimpse into the world of Connie, an American resident-alien in the UK. Connie can jump back and forth over the Atlantic in an artsy-fartsy haze, but the girl can't seem to pick-up and self-esteem. Even though, the reader kind of gets sucked up into her life. I couldn't figure out if I was reading on hoping she'd get a backbone and/or a clue, or if I thought something other than memories of walking around Highgate cemetary would take place. All I got were Connie's idolizations of her junkie artist ex-boyfriend, her manipulative pain-in-butt heroin-smoking, man-stealing best friend, and Ruby, a gorgeous, brilliant demi-god.
