This is the fourth novel in the series about Kit Killigrew in the Royal Navy during the mid 1800s. The previous novels were good sea yarns with pirates, convicts, romance, etc. Fairly typical of the genre but still fun to read. This novel is different. It is about artic exploration - the hunt for Franklin's lost expedition to discover the North-West Passage. As such, it can stand alone and is well worth the read by anyone interested in the subject, even if the previous books in the series haven't been read. Ice, frozen wastes, freezing conditions, hardship, starvation, polar bears, determination. Not to be missed!
