Book Overview

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - From #1 New York Times bestselling author Ava Reid comes a "masterful reimagining" (Publishers Weekly) of Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare's most famous villainess, giving her a voice, a past, and a power that transforms the story men have written for her.

"Lady Macbeth doesn't retell Shakespeare so much as slice cleanly through it, revealing what was hidden beneath. I couldn't look away."--Alix E. Harrow, New York Times bestselling author of Starling House

A CRIMEREADS BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR

The Lady knows the stories: how her eyes induce madness in men.

The Lady knows she will be wed to the Scottish brute, who does not leave his warrior ways behind when he comes to the marriage bed.

The Lady knows his hostile, suspicious court will be a game of strategy, requiring all of her wiles and hidden witchcraft to survive.

But the Lady does not know her husband has occult secrets of his own. She does not know that prophecy girds him like armor. She does not know that her magic is greater and more dangerous, and that it will threaten the order of the world.

She does not know this yet. But she will.

Woof

Thanks, I hated it. I feel like y'all don't come to me for well thought out reviews, y'all come to me because you got lost on the way to find better, smarter reviews. Certainly other people have put into words clear, concise criticisms; I'm just here to complain, baby! My thoughts, in no particular order: 1.. After reading some reviews from Scottish folks, it seems like the author didn't learn Rebecca Yarros' lesson regarding Scottish languages. And girl, your book takes place IN Scotland!! 2. Roscilla really said "I am no man" at the end like she could ever come close to my girl Eowyn. Woof. Also I love a reference ok, but when it's like...subtle. You know, a wink and a nod. 3.Hey, did you guys know Roscilla is, like, really hot? No, but did you get how hot she is? But really, did you understand that she was literally so hot? Ava, PLEASE, we get it. The repetition (on this and other certain phrases my mind is too liquified to remember) was seriously doing my head in. 4. I also feel like the author was going for some kind of Daenerys/Khal Drogo kinda thing with Roscilla & Macbeth but like, more messed up. (I'm talking about their tv relationship, their book relationship was pretty good.) 5. What was the dragon about??? Seriously, someone tell me or I'll cry. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff but that's about 8 hours of my life I can't get back so thanks for the headache I guess.
