Volume III of "Landmark Decisions of the United States Supreme Court" covers ten cases on executive privilege, clear and present danger, forced sterilization, mob justice, the Pledge of Allegiance,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is part of a series that provides readers with the landmark case of a particular area of American life. From the front cover of each book, the reader knows what areas are being covered in each book. For each entry, the authors give a brief summary of the context and procedural posture of each case (what courts the case went through to get to the Supreme Court). Next, is an abridged version of the court's opinion. In some cases, we also get a part of the dissent. Reading what the court actually said is very interesting, and the abridgment hasn't hurt the flow at all. Further, the authors provide a bibliography so that the reader can research further into an particular case in the book. This particular edition has the following cases in order of appearance. Marbury v. Madison, United States v. Nixon, Schenck v. United States, Buck v. Bell, Scottsboro Boys v. Alabama, Minersville School District v. Gobitis, Board of Education v. Barnette, Mapp v. Ohio, Loving v. Virginia, Epperson v. Arkansas, Scopes v. Tennessee, Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson, and Allegheny County v. ACLU. I would recommend this book as a good summary of what the court said in the court's own words on some of the most important cases in American history.
