Langenscheidt Pocket Merriam-Webster English Dictionary

You can pick up a paper, a magazine, or even divulge yourself in the vagaries of online blogger domains; but, if learning is the idea and if rewarding mental effort with a new spoken arsenal is the ambition, then dictionaries/thesaurus' prove most helpful. As of yet still scurrying my hungry eyes across 4 pg's per day (365 x 4 = one year's completion of this dictionary's content nearly twice over). Where the learning and memorization soundly takes place is in the numbered, and contrasting, contextual examples ensuring thorough comprehension of each word's different flavors and situational uses. If all fares well, I intend on writing Langenscheidt personally in order to express my felicitation for their outstanding abridged, pocket version of an English Dictionary - being beyond a notion of a doubt exceptionally valuable and verbally enriching to all comers. Why not spruce up your spoken word with....well, many more of them. This initial plan of mine of diving nose first into the always ripened field of knowledge (etymologies excluded, haven't the hour) extant in all language compilations will now extend itself onward, into the remainder of my time granted - newspapers and jokes are the potatoes to my stew of dictionary terminology. I may post a follow-up review after having taken the GRE for graduate school. This dictionary may very well determine the eventual destination of my choice, if scores reflect high figures.

This dictionary is really very handy. I use it when I am reading brain candy. It has had most of the words in there that I need. The ones that I find are not in there are obscure words like pater. The book is small enough to fit in a backpack and it's well made. Print is very good and so is the layout. I am very happy with this dictionary.

This dictionary is the absolute best for students. When I was High School, I would use this for my vocab list all the time and I loved it! Since the book is so small, it takes half the time to find what you are looking for, and the definitions are short, sweet, and to the point...like this review, bye bye!

This is an elegant and portable little volume in the familiar Langenscheidt yellow and blue. Sturdily bound with flexible plastic covers, it travels well. It is nicely typeset and readable with my trifocals.With 60,000 (brief) entries, it won't do as your only dictionary but will get you by when you do not want to do heavy lifting.I own more than a dozen dictionaries, and this is one of my favorites. It also makes a nice and thoughtful gift, especially for a traveler.You perhaps already know the plot. Let's just say it begins with "a" and ends with "zygote."

This is a superior pocket-style dictionary. It is well-made and can stand up to being hauled around in a backpack for days on end. Some really obscure words like perspicacious (what does it mean?) aren't covered but I suppose I shouldn't complain. I am happy with this dictionary.
