The best-selling, ultimate guide to nature drawing and journaling

A potent combination of art, science, and boundless enthusiasm, this art instruction book from John Muir Laws (author of The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds) is a how-to guide for becoming a better artist and a more attentive naturalist. In straightforward text complemented by step-by-step illustrations, dozens of exercises lead the hand and mind through creating accurate reproductions of plants and animals as well as landscapes, skies, and more. Laws provides clear, practical advice for every step of the process for artists at every level, from the basics of choosing supplies to advanced techniques. While the book's advice will improve the skills of already accomplished artists, the emphasis on seeing, learning, and feeling will make this book valuable--even revelatory--to anyone interested in the natural world, no matter how rudimentary their artistic abilities.

Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling

Got this book for my friend. Came in a timely manner. My friend was thrilled. Keep up the good work!

Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling is spectacular!

This is the VERY BEST book I have on the subject! I hate to spend real money on a book, but I wasn't disappointed with this book. If you are just getting into nature journalling, start here. You will probably discover that you don't need any more books on the subject. He starts with the basics and discussed all aspects of making a journal. He is humble, honest, and excited about the fact he doesn't know the answers to his questions. He uses that as a reason to keep learning. I have only read a few pages, but leafing through the 328 pages is so inspiring. I have already learned so many important things. Date your page and tell the weather with simple symbols, clouds for cloudy, sun for sunny, etc. Draw a simple map or the name of park. Focus on one area or thing to write about. He discussed journaling in different media. You won't be sorry that you bought this book. I only regret that I can't give it more stars!
