Captivating

I loved this book. It is fresh, original, by turns heartbreaking, and then funny. In comparison with the Elsie books from "A Life Of Faith", I like this Laylie loads better. The story is free from superfulous details about money, clothes ,and jewlery. Its all about HER . . . as a unique, and highly animated individual. And it is a spiritual journey from darkness to the light of Jesus. The parts where Millie (Mildred Kieth) read her Bible to Laylie while she was brushing her hair especially touched me; and when Millie cut up her favorite dress to make an outfit for Laylie, I cried. These charactors are tangible. I feel as though I have, in actuality, met them. What I expected when I purchased this book was a run of the mill run away slave book. What I discovered was a story that gripped my heart, and would not let it go.
Excellent Book!

I've read all the Elsie Dinsmore and Millie Keith books, as well as part of the Violet series. They are all very good. However, my favorite book so far in the entire "A Life of Faith" series is Laylie's Daring Quest. I really like the way the story is written and all the adventure in it!
From Slavery to Freedom a Journey in Faith

This book accurately follows the journey of a young slave girl from the field to the manor, from the manor to freedom in the North, at the same time it follows her journey from bondage to sin, to freedom in Christ. A powerful and well written historically accurate book for lovers of freedom. I highly recommend it.
