Paul Welter (who was a professor of counseling and educational psychology at Kearney State College when he wrote this fine book) says that he was inspired by his grandson to write 'Learning From Children.' He describes the sheer joy that he felt as he took the invitation from his grandson to take off his shoes and run through a sprinkler on the lawn. 'We started to leap and yell as we ran,' he writes. 'I began to feel younger.' Welter says, "Children can teach us a great deal. Storytelling, a way to learn about ourselves, honesty in words and actions, the quality of courage, caring and expressing love, how to touch, move, play, create..and more." In this wonderful book (long out of print), we share the many stories that the author has collected that tell of adults who've learned from observing children and entering their unique world of experience. This book is wonderful reading for any parent or grandparent. But it is also suitable for educators and childcare workers, nurses, doctors, Sunday-school teachers ...and anyone who needs a reminder of the adventurous, spontaneous and joyful spirit of our childhood. If we could bottle it, we could probably close most hospitals. If we can learn from children what we adults have forgotten, we will walk with a lighter step (and, as Welter described of himself), we'll surely feel younger -- and happier -- too. Highly recommended. A little gem of a book.
