This is a difficult subject for people like me who make rules and demand guarantees concerning what is free and spontaneous, namely, love. I found that his personal anecdotes resonated with life as I observe it in myself. What I do not recall from the book, but what I would have appreciated, is how we become attached to not loving ourselves, and how egos, or mine at least, tremble with the prospect of fully appreciating how ineptly they run the show. But maybe that is for a more advanced stage - there is a tremendous amount of cognitive work to do at the basic level, and there have been surprising benefits for me so far. This is a favorite of mine. It's one of those that has a gem for anyone that reads it. I suggest it to all of my counseling clients.
