I've read literally dozens of Vietnam I-was-there type books and this is one of the top five or so. A descriptive writer who gives a good insight into the world of vertical flying. A real must for anyone interested in the day to day operations of the LRRPs and Rangers.

I have read this book three times within the past year, and each time it is as fresh as the first time. Mr.Grant takes us with him as a 20 year old Huey pilot to the jungles of Vietnam, not knowing what to expect, leaving and missing a new wife back in "The World." Of all the first account (non-fiction) books I've read about Viet Nam, this has to be one of the best. I've read this three or four times and have enjoyed it every time. It is well written and really communicates the shear terror, humor, friendships, fealt by those who served in VN. _Wings of the Eagle_ is a well written book, telling the story of the author's year as a Huey pilot in VietNam, writing about his missions, friends, and feelings in-country. I highly reccomend this book, and also the books by Gary Linderer, one of which is _Eyes of the Eagle_. It shows the infantry perspective of the same LRP unit Mr. Grant was involved in. Extremely funny, highly readable. Wish it were longer.
