A fascinating and highly-illustrated history of one of the most universal cultural phenomena. Javier Moscoso provides a unique and accessible examination of the formation and transformation of pain, as both a scientific and as a cultural object in modern and contemporary Western societies.
R.K Harrison delivers a very interesting and detailed look into Leviticus in general. His commentary commendably addresses questions and truths contained in and outside the pages of Leviticus. Throughout the book his quizical interests in answering points of interest and even contention over the various priestly and alike legislative rules merit a thoughtful insight in the symbolism and practicality of what is written. The introduction presents a case for Mosaic authorship which is occasionally revisited briefly in the commentary section of the book, which is scattered with very interesting historical and cultural information especially concerning the practices of canaanite peoples, thus illustrating indeed how holy in difference to the canaanites the Israelites are to be. However the book is more of theological concern than of studious concern and does have relevance in understanding the unchanging God today particularly through the given rules as well as the offerings of which Jesus is discussed on various occasion.

Introductory level of study. This is a very nice introduction to Leviticus. It's not too technical or advanced so that one is lost in Hebrew textual data.
