Inspired by the true story of World War II's greatest heroine, this international bestseller and "cinematic treat" tells the story of Nancy Wake and the impact she had on the world (Publishers Weekly). Hero. Soldier. Spy. Leader. Her name is Nancy Wake. To the Allies, she was a fearless freedom fighter, a special operations legend, a woman ahead of her time. To the Gestapo, she was a ghost, a shadow, the most wanted person in the world. But at first, Nancy Wake was just another young woman living in Marseilles and recently engaged to a man she loved. Then France fell to the Nazi blitzkrieg. With her appetite for danger, Nancy quickly finds herself drawn into the underground Resistance standing up to Nazi rule. Gaining notoriety as the White Mouse, with a 5-million-franc bounty hanging over her head, Wake rises to the top of the Nazi's Most Wanted list--only to find her husband arrested for treasonous activity under suspicion of being the White Mouse himself. Narrowly escaping to Britain, Wake joins the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and parachutes into the Auvergne, where she must fight for the respect of some of the toughest Resistance fighters in France. As she and her maquisards battle the Nazis, their every engagement brings the end of the war closer--but also places her husband in deeper peril. A riveting, richly imagined historical thriller, Liberation brings to life one of World War II's most fascinating unsung heroines in all her fierce power and complexity. This is the story of one of the one of the war's most decorated women, told like never before.
I thought this was an awesome story and An Awesome Women in real life !!. The story is very face paced and riveting, vivid and harrowing . Nancy Wake was a very Brave and astonishing woman, that faced many challenges, and prejudices from all her comrades because she was a woman who was a freedom fighter and Special Operations Agent for Great Britian. She was a Real life Superhero who has a rebellious nature , and also a fearless and
compassionate side too. Nancy starts out as A World Reporter for the Hearst Corporation, but is quick to join the underground Resistance Fighters, when France Falls and is taken over by Nazi Rules. She has meet the man of her dreams, who she is engaged to and loves very much...as he also is head over heels in love with her too. She has gained such a reputation, she is nicknamed the "White Mouse", and has a large Bounty over her head, Because of all her raids against the Nazi War Machine. To get to her, The Nazi arrest her Huband for treasonous activity...a false accusation..made by his factory worker who he had let go..due to poor quality work and not showing up. The Nazi's think he may be the "white mouse" keep him in terrogation, and soon start torturing him for information. Nancy is livid..but when she tries to get her husband out..its to no avail. She knows she must be on the run soon...as they have Gestapo watching her front door. Being caught will help no one, Not her dear husband.. (That she is planning to get away from the Nazi's by raiding the prison )that she fears for everday that he is kept a prisoner, nor the Underground Resistance that she works with every single day..plotting and planning Revenge for what they have done to France and its people. I found this book additive from the very start. Its Captivating and emotional at the same time. She is strong and feminine at the same time...fighting for her spot in a male dominated world. There are many other characters that are a major part of the story..they are loveable and intense and very honorable..doing anything to defend their country !!! A wonderful story ..on all levels..a story of strong resilience , bonding of friendships, Who have Human Spirit, to go on..who push.. and who will fight to the death for their country and to keep hope alive. ! Every bit deserving of 5 stars !! Loved it from begining to the very last page ! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟..Must read for Historical Fiction lovers ..full of action and suspense !!!

I bought this book for a friend of mine, who is young (teenager), has a high reading level, and loves history. There was a lot in here that was not appropriate at all. I think I got six pages into the book and put it down because it was so bad. I do not recommend this for anyone really. It was a waste of money.
