Very readable, extremely poor proofreading is distracting

I've just completed a developmental psychology class this semester, so please understand that this review is coming from a student's perspective. I am not a psychologist nor do I aspire to be one. With that said, I will review this book which I have spent extensive time reading. The book is extremely readable. The authors don't try to demonstrate their intelligence by using big words and long, convoluted sentences. I took this class over the internet, so I did not have the benefit of a lecture. Nevertheless, the book is so easy-to-read, yet full of information that I feel like I've walked away from the class with a good understanding of the subject. Yet I feel like I have to point out, if for no other reason than maybe the publishers will read it, that there are ridiculous number of typos in this book. Some are so bad that a simple spell-checker would catch them. Like on page 534 "parenthood" is spelled "perenthood". How does a book get to a 5th edition and still not have words spelled correctly?! I would have given the book 5 stars if it wasn't for the poor editing because simply based on content and writing style, this has been one of my favorite textbooks, even if I don't agree with all of the content. This is a great textbook, and I would even encourage somebody who just wants a good overview of the topic to buy the book to read on your own. Great read. Poor editing.
