This book has many useful articles in it and will be useful to any linux users at any ability. It includes a lot of things that other books leave out like gcc and teTEX. This book also includes an excellent discussion of how the linux file system works --essential if you want to work with files effectively. The Network administration section is excellent as is the section on being a SysAdmin. The book would be helped by a better organized table of contents and perhaps by grouping similar HOWTO's together. As it happens, it looks like Mr. Purcell has glombed a bunch of stuff together and then slapped together a quick index and table of contents and then sent it off to Walnut Creek. Also, the pages are too thin. I think I am going to tear the book when I turn a page. Havoing said that, this will be a cherished possession for many years and I will read it often.
A must-have book

This books is a collection of How-to's put into book form. Although, you can get all the Howto's from the Linux Documentation Project, this book is still indispensible. Contains most (if not all) of the How-To, plus the Network Administrator Guide, and System Administrator's Guide.
A great smorgasboard of a reference.

Without a doubt one of the best Linux references I've come across, so far. Although some subjects aren't as detailed as others, this title has helped me solve many Linux system related issues. Using this title, in conjunction with the classic "Running Linux" and "Linux In A Nutshell," I was even able to recover the boot loader file (LILO), after resizing partitions and not being able to access the system. From Samba to editors this book does it all.
Wonderfull summary of HOWTO's

This book is the summum for new linux users, it summarises all important HOWTO's, so you never need to print them yourself. Inside is also the NETADMIN GUIDE and the SYSADMIN GUIDE. This book got me started and keeps me going.
Indispensable Linux reference

This Walnut Creek CDROM Books' "Linux, the Complete Reference" is a complete printed edition of all the Linux HOWTOs and mini-HOWTOs that are accumulated over the years by contributions of LDP volunteers on the internet. This is the single volume that I look up whenever I have questions about Linux, and check out before going out to post a help-me message on netnews. While none of the articles are written newly for this book (they all exist and available for free on the net), the value of this book is in that it contains all of them in a single paper volume as a reference book.Since many How-to-Linux type books on the market are second-hand works derived from these LDP documents (exceptions are "Running Linux" and few others), why not look up this original stuff and be done with it? Highly recommended. And don't confuse this one with other similar titles.
