This episode of Longarm reaches back to December 1990.It reads as good today as when first published.First of all the full title is actually "Longarm and the Dead Man's Badge".Longarm is sent to Pine Hill ,Wyoming to bring back a fugitive. What seems like a simple task, turns into a fast-action saga with many surprises. The story is well written and holds your interest from beginning to end. There are several well developed characters.Things have become so bad in this town that everyone has given up trying to oppoase a rancher who is intent on completely taking over, including the law. With Longarm on site, you know things are going to change.Lots of action and shootouts but the outcome is never in doubt. When the local Sheriff is killed ,Longarm decides he must put on the badge of the fallen Lawman to ensure that Justice prevails. Others have different ideas, but they have never faced the determination of our hero. How's this for a great scene? "Longarm walked into the living room and saw that Levinson's mother, beaten almost to a pulp, was slowly, doggedly, inserting two fresh charges into her shotgun..."
