With the extraordinary international success on the dance and adult contemporary charts of her song "Mummer's Dance" from her 1998 The Book of Secrets album, Loreena McKennitt has emerged as a first lady of Celtic music, taking her place beside Enya, Maire Brennan, and Mary Black, not only as an exceptionally talented musician by also as a custodian of Celtic culture. Since 1985 when she recorded her first album on her own Quinlan Road label, Loreena McKennitt has travelled the world like a contemporary Marco Polo following the paths of ancient Celtic culture, from Ireland and Cornwall to Brittany and Galacia, from Italy and Greece to Turkey and China. Each of her journeys has inspired her songs, and each of her songs has revealed a new depth of understanding of our world through Celtic eyes.
This books is a wonderful biography for Loreena McKennitt. First off I think this is the first biography done on her and the author did a wonderful job. There are several color plates within the book that are very cool. It details about how her life was lead, how she created her record label (which I was most interested in) and how she creates her music. Very inspiring .....
