After claiming a fat bounty on a train robber, Skye Fargo decides to relax for a spell, and what a better place to kick back than the wild port of New Orleans? No sooner does he set off than he gets talked into playing guard dog for a high-stakes poker game and soon has to prove that his bite is much worse than his bark... Other than this unknown author (Jon Sharpe is a pseudonym) seemingly not knowing much about Fargo's background and the book not being anywhere near as action packed as would be expected from a Trailsman tale, this is an intriguing and captivating read. It seems the poker game is being used to decide more than who is just the best gambler and the main players all spin very different tales about each other and why they want to win. So just exactly can Fargo trust? The plot moves quickly and smoothly as the author includes twist and double-cross all the way through as Fargo, and the reader, try to work out motives and just who is who they say they are. Overall this is a well written story which will hook the reader and throws up a couple of surprises at the end.
