William Duggan's sequel to "The Great Thirst" is one of my favorite books of all time. The honesty, humor, and trials of his characters are refreshing when compared to the cyncism that plagues our own culture. Ada and her sisters are great symbols of the inevitable clash of cultures that is Africa and the world. Inevitable because we cannot go back - and melancholy for the same reason. But the humor and the humanity of this book is why I cherish my copy and read it again and again. When can I expect the next Duggan book -- I've been patiently waiting for years.
