Lust Bites is a collection of three erotic novellas on vampirism. Each story takes a different take on the vampire myth, and each one has something different to offer. Vampire's Heart by Kristina Lloyd Years ago, before he'd gained control over his bloodlust and strength, vampire Billy killed the woman that he loved. As her soul vanished into the ether, Billy mourned the loss and knew that he would wait for her to be reborn, and that the next time he would treat her the way she deserved. He knows the exact second she is reborn as Esther and waits until they can be together again. Biding his time, Billy takes a male lover, Simeon, and moves to the Arctic, abstaining from drinking human and animal blood and instead subsisting entirely on a substitute called Blud. He is waiting for his love and the second chance at love and doesn't want anything, including a pesky thing like bloodlust, to get in his way. When Esther comes to his Arctic hideout with a group of explorers, Billy tries to resist making her his until she is ready to accept who he is. Simeon, on the other hand, is jealous of the hold Esther has on his mate, and vows to do something about it... Of the three tales in this collection, Vampire's Heart has to be the one most traditionally associated with erotica. The sex scenes are explosive, the passion level is high, and the interaction between characters is on point. Billy is a traditional alpha male hero, despite his homosexual relationship with Simeon, and he bends both Simeon and Esther to his will using erotic manipulation. Esther as a heroine was utterly forgettable, but Billy more than makes up for her lackluster part in the story. Of the three stories, this was my least favorite. Buddies Don't Bite by Portia Da Costa Teresa Johnson is rudely dumped by her boyfriend shortly before a wedding they were supposed to attend together. Coming home, Teresa is dejected and upset when she is discovered by her landlord, Zachary Trevelyan. Teresa has always harbored feelings for Zack, but they mutually decided that their friendship would be best if they maintained a polite distance. But after seeing her upset, Zack offers to be her date for the wedding even though he knows it will put his secret at risk. See Zack takes a special iron supplement for his anemia that looks surprisingly like blood, he suffers from photosensitivity and cannot go out in sunlight, and he has canines so sharp that if Teresa didn't know any better he'd think she was a vampire... Buddies Don't Bite is more like traditional chick lit than erotica. The romantic tension between these two friends builds and builds until you're just dying for them to let it go and become lovers. Zack is a sweeter vampire than in most other paranormal stories. He's shy, hesitant, and leery of the potential hurt he could cause Teresa if she finds out the truth about him. Teresa, on the other hand, is your traditional human character in a paranormal romance--completely oblivious to the sign
