These books are very throrough and cover grinding, lathe operation, drilling, milling, etc. However, you need to get both volumes. Volumes 1 and 2 are different books, not different version of the same book.

These two volumes tell me more than the other 7 or 8 books on machine shop that I have. Written very clearly and concisely, extremely easy to understand for the amount of information it puts out. Explains many of the details of machineshop and how to sharpen your own cutting tools, how to thread, many of the common types of shop machines and how to use them. This is the best shop book that I have read to date
