Before electricity, candles and oil lamps were the primary source of light in the home. The lanterns housing these light sources provided protection from fire and served as wondrous decorative pieces.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I'm an all-around crafter/artsist and bought this book out of sheer curiosity. This clever, instructive book presents an incredible range of do-able projects. More than just charming, inventive lanterns and lamps, it's an inspiring cross-pollinator of translatable ideas and transferrable techniques. All the projects feature inexpensive, readily available materials, and anyone with a good eye, steady hand and patience can replicate them. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Crafters who upcycle will find the tin projects great points of departure. Those who like fairy-themed decor will adore the magical bluebell lantern and the fairy-silhouette luminaria, or perhaps the blossoms featured on the cover (you'll never guess what they're made from!) But ultimately, the "eureka!" moments when I saw common materials used in innovative ways were priceless. This is a "think outside the box" book.

I loved this book. After I had made a few of the lanterns I gave it to my grown son who did marvelous things with the ideas in this book. I highly recommend this book.

A truly amazing collection of projects to inspire any crafts lover. I wish there was more of it.
This book's title is perfect -- the projects truly are magical.

I stumbled upon this book out shopping one day, and purchased it immediately. As another reviewer mentioned, the cover does not do justice to the beautiful, amazing projects in this book.
Incredibly Beautiful Projects

I don't own this book yet but I've probably checked it out at the library 3 or 4 times. I will buy it soon. I don't think the cover of the book does it justice. Some of the projects are not so special but I really think the handmade paper ones are exquisite. I have made the string of lights project and was pleased. It would look very beautiful in a backyard for a night time party. Unfortunatly, I don't have the backyard. I very much want to try making the unusal and truely magical looking projects such as "Icicles" made with plastic tubing, plastic wrap, and hair nets--guess you gotta see the photos to understand. I also want to make "Stars on Sticks", "Teepee Table Light", "Willow Fish Lantern", and especially "Flower Fairy Lantern. It would look so pretty in my daughter's bedroom.
