This book by the award-winning team of photographer Geoff Manasse and writer Jean Swallow, portrays a new kind of family formed by gays and lesbians. The authors travelled all over America, talking with gay men and lesbians, those with children and without, young and old, with mixed families and blended families, broken and healed families. In a photojournalistic style, you are introduced to people through family life events, including birth and a birthday celebration, Granny visiting, a wedding, working together, a retirement dinner, quiet moments at home, Christmas at home, getting ready for a dinner for friends, preparing for death and living through mourning.

This book displays to the reader beautiful true stories that sum up the basis of every family: love. Making love visible is very important in today's society. If everybody read this book with an open-mind imagining their families in each of these stories, the world would be a much better place. Truly a book for all ages, Making Love Visible should be in every household.

Making Love Visible is a remarkable compilation of stories about families. The Authors obviously spent a great deal of time with each family interviewing everyone and coming up with some moving stories. All the families have Gay and/or Lesbian members but the similarity ends there. This book shows a remarkable spectrum of family structure. All the stories left me with a sense of amazement at our country and the ability of people to have love in their lives. It's all stated so matter of fact, but none of the stories could be described as typical. I highly recommend this book to anyone in need of inspiration or insight into true American family values.
