Join George Chambers, an expensive Harvard educated lawyer, in China as he works on a complex arrangement involving emerging technologies and political conflicts in the hear of difficult negotiations,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
In "Making Rain" Jerry Sears combines a natural gift for story telling with the insights of an experienced legal recruiter and the skills of a motivational speaker. He engages your interest from the first page and weaves valuable lessons in business development and self motivation into the text. There is a focus to each chapter with the key points reviewed in a separate section, together with a voluntary quiz which reemphasises the highlights. The thoroughly contemporary plot ranges over an area from China through California, Mexico and Washington DC. It incorporates an insiders view of the work ethic and culture of law practice in a (fictional) leading law firm. The lessons apply, however, to all forms of modern business organization. All in all, a great read and a worthwhile purchase.

An intriguing story that really sneaks up on you. Who would ever imagine that a book about a lawyer who cannot relate to clients and bring business to his firm could fascinate? Of course there is much more to the story than that. It is a great read that kept me up late several nights when I should have long since been in bed. But it is not just a great story. It is instructive too. Working for a partnership as a consultant (although not in the legal arena), several of the characters definitely walk the halls of our offices. The book provided insight into the firm's dynamics and what it takes to get to the top and stay there. The book also differs from others I have read because it has a section at the end designed to help people develop their rainmaking skills. Although I have not had time yet to work with that section, if it is anything like the rest of the book, it too will be well worth the time and effort involved in untilizing it.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story and consider it a must read for anyone working for a partnership, particularly if you want to become part of the partnership.
