Things have changed in 20 years, they always do, but some things, like human relationships will always have certain questions they must address to survive and thrive. Eric Marcus interviewed many gay couples and did a lot of research to help you, the reader ask some very good questions. Some of his resources may not be available but given he focused on bigger, well-established one, many are still around. The book is well organized both in terms of general layout, one topic flows well to the next in the 16 chapters, but also within each chapter the subjects are laid out well and the information is presented with almost perfect clarity. So why only 4 instead of 5 stars from me? While he talks a bit about his interviews he needs a lot more details to make this a solid book -- he needs the exact numbers he interviewed, where exactly they are, when they were interviewed, over how many sessions and for how many minutes. A list of the general questions he asked would be great to. All that could be done with a few charts. But the topics are solid and the experience and advice from different couples is great.
Great Book For New and Old Gays

This is a great book to read for any gay person with or with out a partner. I just recently accepted my sexuality and have begun to come out. I felt that it was a great book and had a lot of great suggestions. Ranging from anything from how to make your relationship legal, to age differences, and even advice on who to come out to and who not to. Of course, none of this is set in stone, it is all helpful opinions. The thing I liked most about the book was how they let the couples tell their stories relating to each chapter. It actually allowed you to see it through someone else's eyes and how it relates to couples. It is a great book that I would recommend to anyone whether they have been out of the closet for 15 years and have been involved in 20 or more relationships, or someone who isn't even out of the closet and hasn't had one relationship. A great book for all. I give it a two thumbs up! :)

I've been with my lover for four years and we both read this book. It was the catalyst for alot of important conversations that have had a profound/positive impact on our lives. This book is not preachy, it's well written and informative without being pushy. Thank you Eric Marcus, I owe you one.
Eric Marcus at his best! A must have!

I have read other books by Eric Marcus and none of them fail to please. "The Male Couple's Guide..." is no exception. It's a great read. It provided a lot of good, timely information on the whole 'couple thing'. Marcus covers every angle from meeting to marriage. I learned a lot and enjoyed the personal touch that shines throughout. Taking a glimpse into the lives of real couples helps the reader understand all the dynamics that go into building a lasting relationship. Excellent resource for today's gay man. Finally something to go by!
A variety of good general advice.

The book covers a variety of topics (dating, living together, social situations, finances, relationships, etc. ), and usually offers alot of good advice. It tries to take in opposing perspectives on some, so that the reader might consider both points of view. It gives examples by illustrating some of the people who were apparently interviewed during research for the book. It would be nice to see it expanded upon and more detailed in future revisions.
