This work covers Active Directory, what Microsoft call the the next generation of Directory Services. Active Directory provides a single point of administration for Windows 2000 users and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I bought this book to learn about Active Dir. It gave me mor than just the facts - it told me what to look out for and what to do. My network is running on windows 2000 now without a hitch! The only thing that was kind of weird was chapter 12 - it was out of place - it seemed like an overview that got stuck in the back of the book.
Exceptionally helpful in the trenches

I was impressed that htis book was so great in helping me understand how Windows 2000 Active Directory worked. It is advanced - and menat for the engineer - not your average Joe technician - so it has a lot of details...even secrets. I thought it was written in a straightforward way. I understood the concepts right awaya nd could use them in my network today. We have a huge network and this book written for people who have many users not just the local network with 75 users! It is on my shelf and going to stay there!

I got this book along with the System Administration Handbook. Both books are really good. This is the firt really detailed book I've seen on AD.
High-level and hands-on

I highly recommend this book to any system administratator trying to migrate over to Windows 2000. It strikes a great balance between delivering a high-level overview of essential new features and "in the trenches" hands-on advice for configuring a Windows 200 LAN. Strong both conceptually and practically. It's a winner!
Finally

I was very excited when this title published, because I've been waiting for a really good Active Directory book. This is one of the most useful things that Microsoft has put into Windows in a long time, and this book is the first book that shows you how to actually take advantage of it. Strongly recommended,
