I must be clear of what i am saying in this book about my adopted city, Manchester, where my two children were born, and call home - this sport, food and clothing crazy place, this Labour stronghold, are ideals to be found. Ideals beyond politics, beyond the immediate issues emblazoned on the flat screen TV, and it is this: though the rain keeps falling and Oxford Road buses keep running, time itself waits for no one But art can help you see the beyond all that jazz. Manchester, this old roman garrison site, this ever expanding multi-faith modern city, the place of my children's birth, our house, our football team, a mesh of miseries and majestic moments is a place to be, a place to love. At the University of Manchester I trained for social work in the mid-1980s. But this city is a school for life, uni or no uni. I call this volume 'Manchester My Home'.I ended vol. II, Wembley to Manchester, frustrated, because I was not an artist despite selling over 120 paintings since 1990 in my self-styled career. I had to admit that I had failed to make a regular and reliable living at this dicey trade. A truth that I could not ignore, but, I could try to modify that truth. This book is part of that effort.
