Digital projects for organisations go well when there is a clear map of what the technology will do to support the organisation's goals and how it will get there. Digital projects fail when they are opaque - people don't understand why the technology is there, what it is meant to do to help them, and how it will do that. We need more map makers - and also we need map makers who understand the forces which make technology opaque, and be ready to take them on.
