Barbie Mariposa

I bought this book as a gift for my 5 yr old daughter. She is well outside the suggested age range of 9-12, but considering she is reading at a 2nd to 3rd grade level, I figured she could handle it. It took her less than a week to read it and she absolutely adored the book. It helped that she had watched the Barbie Mariposa DVD Barbie Mariposa and Her Butterfly Friends on her birthday so she knew the characters in the story. However, I think that she would have liked it anyway - she's all about princesses and fairys right now... In my interview with her after reading the book, she said she really enjoyed the book because it had butterfly fairys in it. She liked the central figure, Mariposa, because she's a superhero and she saves the day versus the bad guy - Henna, the evil fairy. Her favorite part was the end because Mariposa was able to make her home calm again. She thought other little 5 yr olds would love the book too, but she didn't note that she thought it would be necessary for them to know how to read. If they couldn't read, she said that she was sure that mommy's and daddy's could read it as a bedtime story. So we thought it was a great book. It's also very economical as an almost 100 pg book priced at less than $5.
