Marius is the first and best of the Marius-Fanny-Cesar trilogy. Not that the other two aren't a complete delight. To anyone who has been fascinated by the world beyond the horizon line, or interested in the real culture of Provence, you will cherish this story. I would recommend reading Fanny and Cesar to follow the characters' lives another twenty years.
