I am pretty impressed with the quality of the book. It covers a good amount of material throughout Mark and even goes over the stuff that may or may not support Mark being actually from God. I saw the book at the Society of Biblical Literature conference in Boston, so I bought a few of them from the series. 5 Stars from an atheist theology student.
Best Series for teaching ...

Most commentaries are written for and used by those studying the text. This book (and the Interpretation Series) is well done for those who are looking for the meaning of a text to use (as it says) in teaching and preaching. I first encountered this series when I asked one of my Seminary Instructors what the "best" commentary series was. His answer: "The best commentary is the one you actually use." He then recommended this series as one of the best to use once I got out of Seminary. *** Note - It's been 4 years, I now have the complete set (on disk). I find these references a great start, when I'm looking at a challenging text. As I said in my original review, it is not as in-depth as my other commentaries, but it is a great resource to keep around for sermon preparation.
