Funny, yet poignant...

Amusing summer story, yet you kind of think, poor Mary Anne. She's helping set up Camp BSC, but so many things are going wrong for her & she's feeling down. When kind of tender, cute scene is when her dad goes on a business trip & as Mary Anne is kissing him goodbye, she realizes how much she'll miss him & almost starts to cry right there in the airport (which she's done when Dawn heads back west). She swallows mid-sentence just as she's telling her dad goodbye & is a little embarrassed at missing her dad. Sharon & Dawn try to cheer Mary Anne up by renting funny movies, but poor Mary Anne even feels more like crying! Then to complicate matters, she badly sprains her ankle! Miserable as she was feeling, I liked how she comforts one little girl at the camp who was having separtion anxiety from her mother. I like how Mary Anne doesn't wallow in self-pity, but reaches out to others even when she herself is going through a bad time & feeling miserable. Mary Anne is a such an intelligent, wonderful girl & this world needs more people like her.
