Elayne Rapping Feminist media critic Elayne Rapping takes such varied pop culture artifacts as soap operas, Madonna, and Amy Fisher to uncover a new paradigm of feminism's interface with the media. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This overview of all kinds of pop culture from the 70s through the nineties is always interesting and fun to read. Some of the articles and reviews seem dated, some still hold up. But even the oldies give a sense of changing trends in culture and cultural criticism. The discussions of feminism's impact on media and society--even in an age characterized by 'backlash' are particularly interesting. Rapping has an engaging often humorous style and the broad range of popular culture she covers makes this a very good read. Recommended/
